Leonard is a visual artist based in Portland, Oregon. She works with a variety of different
materials including colored pencil, graphite, acrylic paint, oil paint, and digital
media. Most of her work is 2D, and in it she strives to capture a softened, romanticized
version of whatever is being rendered. Subject matter ranges from everyday life to
strange fantasy realms. In her fantasy work, the aim is to tell half of a story with each
of the art pieces. She creates a compelling image that seems to be a snapshot from a
larger, more inclusive scenario, and lets the viewer use their imagination to fill in what came before the scene, what may come after, and what else exists in the
world that has been created. The work is largely inspired by dreams and fleeting emotion.
Leonard is mostly self-taught, picking up tips and techniques from books, and occasionally
taking classes and workshops from local or touring artists who she admires.
She hopes to continue evolving her fantasy artistic style and use it to illustrate
original works of fiction and poetry.
Outside of her visual arts pursuits she enjoys dancing,
taking trapeze lessons, adventuring in the great Oregon wilderness, and spending
time with her six quirky, wonderful housemates.
